South Asian Games 2023

Bangok Patana School Sport Complex, Bangkok, Thailand

The South Asia Games were back in full swing this year, and the Singapore Gaelic Lions were well represented, fielding 3 men’s and 3 ladies teams. (Our captains obviously inspired by our sponsors and naming the men’s teams D/H/L and the ladies Muddys/Pennys/Scruffys – no confirmation yet how much the brown envelopes from DHL and Muddy Murphy Holdings contained.)

Singapore traditionally enters mixed ability teams, ensuring everyone gets a good go at competing for a prize on the day. Weather in Bangkok was a scorching 40 degrees plus at times, meaning whoever would prevail wouldn’t have it easy. The first games kicked off at 7am in the morning and Singapore Men’s D got their first win on the board.

There were 3 competitions being run on the day – Cup, Plate and Shield and competing teams for each was determined by the results of the group stages. Men’s Team D won all of their group games, and so they qualified for the Cup – all of the other Singapore Teams were competing for the Plate come the early afternoon. In the end, the D team were beaten in their Semi Final, but Singapore took home both the Men’s and Ladies Plates, a great showing of the squad strength and depth in the club.

There’ll be a few weeks off from training now before the club gets started back into AGG season – not long until the 15th of September. See you in Kuala Lumpur.
