Temperatures were scorching on this May Saturday in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur, playing host to the annual South Asia Games for the 2nd year running. As ever, the Singapore Gaelic Lions turned up in force entering the Ladies’ Senior and Junior competitions, while the Men entered 2 Senior teams and 1 junior. A special shout-out to Gareth O’Brien who was making a rare SAGs appearance, only to be sidelined by sitting on an ant the Thursday prior.
The Senior Ladies’ made good on their attempts this year, taking home the cup after a final against Saigon Gaels. Despite the efforts of the Juniors, it wasn’t their day and they were beaten at the semi final stage.
The Men’s Juniors were beaten in their Cup Final by the Viet Celts B team by a single point. In the Senior Competition, SGL took home both the Plate and the Cup – beating Saigon and Thailand respectively. The Senior Cup victory was a repeat of last year – a sideline golden score free-kick from Liam McGinley took home the spoils after extra time wasn’t enough to separate the teams.
Congratulations also to Eimear Neary and Stephen Swords for winning MVP on the day – Swordsy taking an afternoon break to visit the hospital for stitches before rejoining the team for the Cup Final.
