Welcome to the Singapore Gaelic Lions

Lads & Ladies, Boys & Girls,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Singapore Gaelic Lions Club and our new website.

This is a club that is all about the craic, camaraderie & competition.

It offers those who find themselves very far from home a place where they can find something recognisable.

It welcomes those who have and have not played our games, those who come from our little green dot and those who do not.

Since the club was formed in 1997, squad numbers have grown to make us the largest club in Asia. Right now, about 20% of our 200-strong membership have either never previously played our games or do not come from Ireland.

An ever-growing social calendar offers everything from Amazing Races to Blind Dates & Family Days Out. An annual tribute to a beloved past member, Alan Power, has grown into the biggest club event which sees guys and girls mixed teams battle it out for the Wooden Spoon. We take the fun on the road too, this year seeing the club go on tour to Kuala Lumpur, for the South East Asia Games (SEAs) and Bangkok, for the Asian Gaelic Games (AGGs).

We have a proud record in competition. The AGGs have been conquered by our Ladies on no less than tne occasions and by our Men’s team eight times. The SEAs have been also seen a rich harvest for SGL over the years.

Our club fitness sessions are aimed at the highest of standards – come and try your hand at keeping pace with current inter-county players!

Of course, the highlight for many is the holy grail of the AGGs every October. Home-comings & weddings are scheduled around it & the fitness is aimed towards it. Over 1,000 Irish people descend on one Asian city to compete at all levels & celebrate into the early hours. Take a look at previous tours under our Tours category.

Our underage group – The Cubs – offer girls and boys of ages 3-15 a chance to learn the skills, keep fit & for their parents to meet others and enjoy our games. Have a look at their page to check out the details.

I encourage you to explore our new website for a trip into past times and some housekeeping information for those making the regular journeys to SCC Dempsey, SJI and other venues for the regular training sessions. Keep an eye on it for updated training schedules and socials, to pay your member subs and learn about the games.

Finally, I hope you feel welcome to the club and for those who have left us – I hope you find the website a ‘home’ with which to keep in touch.

Once a Lion, Always a Lion.
